A Diamond Seat and A Weekend with the Cubs Reviewed

By Josh Ramsey

May 9, 2010

So the Reds took 2 out of 3 against the Cubs this weekend and pushed their record to 16-15 overall. Cincy scored 14 runs in a game, Chicago scored 14 runs in a game, Votto was on fire, Leake was off the hook, and I started my weekend in the Diamond Seats at GABP. Let’s review the games:

FRI night: Reds 7 Cubs 14…so the Reds lost…but rather than talk about the woes of Homer Bailey I want to share my personal experience of this day, and Wow…what an experience. I was presented Diamond Seat tickets for this game as a birthday present by the most remarkable woman that I have ever met…needless to say she was my date for the game and it was my privilege. Now, I have watched games from luxury suites but none…and I mean none can compare to the experience of taking in a game in the Diamond Seats at GABP. Granted the person who accompanied me had a lot to do with my exceptional experience but there were some other factors…and not just the fact that I was only 60 ft from home plate…and not just the "all you can eat" and "all you can drink" steak and beer…or the fact that you never ever have to leave your seat for it. This was one day that I really didn’t care that the Reds lost. Wow…Thank you for an amazing night NS!

SAT night: Reds 14 Cubs 2…It was nice to see the bats come alive for 14 runs. Joey Votto seems to be on a tear of late and everyone else seems to be digging their new spots on the lineup (thanks for listening to common sense Dusty). Mr. Harang got the win…his second of the year against four loses…he did strike out nine…but here is the but…he still gave up more hits than innings pitched and continues to allow teams to hit well over .300 against him…don’t be fooled…2 starts doesn’t make me a believer.

SUN day: Reds 5 Cubs 3…Mike Leake Mike Leake Mike Leake…is he for real? Once again Leake goes seven innings giving up 4H, 3ER, 6SO, and walked only one. He has been consistent all year…he has pitched at least seven innings in four of his six starts…ladies and gentlemen let me introduce you to the future face of the Cincinnati pitching staff…Mike Leake...who was off the hook…yet again! In other notes; Joey Votto homered for the second straight game and added 3 RBIs…It's easy to see that he enjoys having Brandon Phillips hit in front of him rather than directly behind him. See what happens when you put people where they belong in the lineup Dusty…everyone can benefit.

Sitting at 16-15 Cincy has a chance to make some headway this week if they can take advantage of their schedule…with my fingers crossed I am hoping to have something happy to write about on Wednesday.
